Wharncliffe Side is a village northwest of Sheffield that is part of the Sheffield city borough. Wharcliffe Side lies on the west bank of the river Don, 9.7 kilometres northwest of Sheffield city centre and 1.6 kilometres northwest of Oughtibridge, south of the junction of the Ewden beck and the River Don. The village is 133 meters above sea level, and the A6102 road runs past it. Brighthomelee Lane is home to a primary school, as well as a post office and two public houses. Glen Howe Park is located near the village’s southern end. Brightholmlee, an ancient farming hamlet, is 0.80 kilometres to the west. The legend of the Dragon of Wantley is related with Wharncliffe Crags, a river Don valley landmark north of the settlement.
