Bakewell is a market town and civil parish in the Derbyshire Dales district, famous for its Bakewell pudding. It is located on the Wye River, about 21 kilometres southwest of Sheffield. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are both nearby tourist sites. Bakewell draws both domestic and international visitors. Monday is the typical market day in town. The cattle market takes place in a purpose-built agricultural facility across the river from the town centre, which also hosts a stall market. The Peak District National Park Authority, based at Aldern House on Baslow Road, is a major employer. Its mission is to preserve, improve, and promote understanding and enjoyment of the local environment.
