Fulwood, Sheffield, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, England, S10 3TE, United Kingdom
Fulwood is a residential suburb and ward of Sheffield, located 5.5 kilometres west-southwest of the city centre. It was once an ancient town and village on Porter Brook before being incorporated into the city in the 1930s. Fulwood was once an Anglo-Saxon settlement, with the name „Ful Wuda“ meaning „wet, marshy forest“ in Old English. Other meanings of the word include „foul, unclean wood“ and „folks wood“ from the Old English „folc“. The linear parks along the Porter Brook valley are the main recreation spaces in Fulwood. Whiteley Woods Park is 11.5 hectares in size, whereas Forge Dam is a 9.5-hectare rectangular green space with a café and children’s playground. Both parks are part of the Porter Valley Parks, a network of interconnected green spaces that includes a 4.5-kilometer-long walk that runs from Endcliffe Park to Porter Clough in the open countryside beyond Fulwood.
