Manchester, Greater Manchester, England, United Kingdom
Manchester is part of the Greater Manchester area. In 2021, it had a population of 552,000 people. It is bounded to the south by the Cheshire Plain, to the north and east by the Pennines, and to the west by the neighbouring city of Salford. The Greater Manchester Built-up Area, which includes the two cities and neighbouring towns, is one of the most populated conurbations in the United Kingdom, with a population of 2.87 million people. The city is well-known for its architecture, culture, musical exports, media connections, scientific and engineering production, social effect, sports clubs, and transportation links. Manchester is located in the heart of a green belt zone that extends into the adjacent counties. This limits urban sprawl, avoids further convergence of towns inside the conurbation, protects the individuality of outlying settlements, and preserves neighbouring countryside.
