Nottingham is a city and unitary authority region in the East Midlands county of Nottinghamshire. It is 53 kilometres southeast of Sheffield. Nottingham is associated with the legend of Robin Hood, as well as the lace, bicycle, and tobacco industries. Nottinghamshire’s county town, the city was granted its city charter in 1897 as part of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Nottingham is a prominent sporting centre and is often termed ‘Home of English Sport’. The National Ice Centre, Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre, and Trent Bridge International Cricket Ground are all located in or near the city, which also serves as the home of two professional football clubs: Notts County and Nottingham Forest.
