Buxton, High Peak, Derbyshire, England, United Kingdom
Buxton is a spa town in the Derbyshire town of High Peak. It is England’s highest market town, standing 300 meters above sea level. On the outskirts of the Peak District National Park, it is bordered by Cheshire to the west and Staffordshire to the south. Poole’s Cavern, a limestone cavern; St Ann’s Well, supplied by a geothermal spring bottled by the Buxton Mineral Water Company; and several historic structures, including John Carr’s restored Buxton Crescent, Henry Currey’s Buxton Baths, and Frank Matcham’s Buxton Opera House, are among the attractions. The University of Derby’s Devonshire Campus is housed in historic buildings. Buxton is twinned with the French town of Oignies and the German town of Bad Nauheim.
