Wisewood, Sheffield, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, England, S6 4BH, United Kingdom
Wisewood is a suburb of Sheffield, located northwest of the city centre. It is a residential area made up nearly entirely of council property, some of which has been purchased by tenants through the right-to-buy system. Prior to the 1920s, the Wisewood area was primarily made up of farmer’s fields. There were scattered modest homes and farm structures, and the people worked as farm laborers, quarrymen, steelworkers, ganister miners, or pocketknife manufacturers. Wisewood was transformed in the late 1920s when Sheffield City Council decided to establish a huge housing estate there in 1928. Wisewood’s only recreation place is the locally called Spider Park, a grassland area with few facilities.
