Whirlow, Sheffield, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, England, S11 9QU, United Kingdom
Whirlow is a Sheffield suburb. It is situated southwest of the city centre. It is one of Sheffield’s most affluent neighbourhoods, having a lot of high-end property and a few prominent modest country houses. It was home to some of Sheffield’s most powerful inhabitants throughout the Victorian era. Whirlow has a significant number of large, spectacular houses, many of which were built in the Victorian era by Sheffield’s Nouveau Riche. They had accumulated their riches as Sheffield grew prosperous as a result of its industrial boom. Parkhead Hall, a Grade II listed structure, was designed by architect J.B. Mitchell-Withers for his own use in 1865.
