Wadsley Map

Wadsley, Sheffield, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, England, S6 4BS, United Kingdom

Wadsley was once a rural community that was overrun by the growth of Sheffield in the early twentieth century. The name Wadsley is likely to be derived from a personal or mythical name, possibly Wad, Wadde, Wade, or Wada, combined with the Old English word „leah“, which indicates an open place or glade in a wood. Wadsley has some country houses that still survive within the now built-up suburb due to its prior rural location. Wadsley has two primary schools, Marlcliffe Community Primary School on Marlcliffe Road and Wisewood Community Primary School on Rural Lane. Both serve students aged 4 to 11.
